Fuels Process Engineer
About this role
Kairos Power seeks a Process Engineer with chemical and physical process expertise to support TRISO particle fuel fabrication for fluoride-salt-cooled reactors. You'll design, construct, and optimize process equipment for advanced reactor fuel production while collaborating across engineering, operations, and quality teams.
Responsibilities
- —Interpret process engineering information via Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), heat and material balances, and process envelopes, integrating them into mechanical designs
- —Develop equipment specifications and size tanks, vessels, valves, lines, and pumps based on process needs
- —Prepare equipment lists and data sheets
- —Develop and/or approve manufacturing drawings for custom-designed equipment
- —Interface with vendors for equipment and instrument procurement
- —Work with Lead Responsible Engineer to develop equipment commissioning plans and procedures
- —Coordinate with facility operations to implement, test, and optimize TRISO fuel fabrication processes
- —Provide technical oversight of fuel fabrication processes and incorporate best practices for continuous improvement
- —Work with engineers and technologists to identify mechanical deficiencies and process equipment improvements
- —Partner with manufacturing team in equipment manufacturing, assembly, and test certification of process equipment skids
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar discipline
- —5+ years performing duties in a process or mechanical engineering role in a chemical, pharmaceutical, industrial, or manufacturing setting
- —Experience generating Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Heat & Material Balances (H&MBs), and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- —Experience working with hazardous processes and chemicals, including implementation of appropriate safety controls
- —Experience commissioning new vendor-supplied equipment and in-house designed equipment
Desired
- —Proficiency with CAD, SolidWorks, and modeling software
- —Familiarity with process documentation and how PFDs and P&IDs inform industrial system operations
Location
Onsite; up to 5% travel; requires ability to work on ladders, in confined spaces, and around hazardous chemicals
