Fire Protection Engineer
About this role
Fire Protection Engineer responsible for designing and developing fire protection systems for Oklo's advanced fission power plants. You'll lead the design, licensing, and commissioning of safety-critical systems in a fast-paced startup environment focused on next-generation nuclear energy.
Responsibilities
- —Establish fire protection requirements that inform plant design
- —Develop Fire Hazard Analyses, Fire Protection Program, First Safe Shutdown Analyses, and other licensing and design documentation
- —Define equipment architecture, specifications, operational modes, and performance criteria
- —Lead the design of fire protection equipment
- —Perform commissioning and testing of fire protection systems
- —Manage projects with third party fire protection consultants
- —Document work using modern tools and techniques, and compose well-written technical reports
Qualifications
- —Engineering education in Fire Protection, Nuclear, Chemical, or Mechanical engineering
- —Experience performing design of fire protection systems in nuclear, petroleum, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical industries
- —Broad familiarity with engineering principles, strong systems engineering and operations intuition
Desired
- —Knowledge of nuclear facility fire protection design and operations under NRC or DOE license
- —Experience with NFPA 804 or NFPA 850 standards
- —Experience with IBC or IFC standards
- —Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- —Ability to work in fast-paced, iterative startup environment
- —Creative problem-solving mindset and willingness to propose novel solutions
Location
Remote with required travel to Santa Clara, CA headquarters twice quarterly; two weeks in-person onboarding required at headquarters.
