About this role
Kairos Power seeks a Facilities Mechanical Technician to support advanced nuclear reactor R&D operations at our Albuquerque, New Mexico facility. You'll perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing of boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, and building infrastructure critical to nuclear testing and prototype operations, collaborating with engineering and construction teams.
Responsibilities
- —Complete preventative and corrective maintenance/troubleshooting on boilers, chillers, HVAC, plumbing, compressed air, and other mechanical systems supporting R&D testing
- —Support construction and operations of boilers, chillers, HVAC, and building systems equipment in support of nuclear prototype testing
- —Perform lockout/tagout to isolate components and de-energize equipment; test, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctioning systems using basic electrical test equipment
- —Develop operating standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for mechanical equipment; document and communicate results of preventive maintenance including visual inspections and hazard identification
- —Carry out skilled maintenance tasks including inspections, operations, installation, and troubleshooting of building equipment such as bridge cranes and dock equipment
- —Manage facilities projects, work orders, and preventive maintenance tasks using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- —Support regulatory inspections, audits, and corrective action implementation related to mechanical systems and facilities compliance
- —Participate in emergency response activities related to mechanical system failures or facility outages, including on-call or after-hours support
Qualifications
- —High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with completion of accredited industrial/commercial maintenance program or equivalent work experience
- —3+ years of experience working with HVAC, plumbing, boilers, chillers, or related systems in industrial, commercial, and/or R&D facilities
- —State of New Mexico certifications/licenses for completing work on boilers, chillers, or refrigerant systems
- —Experience testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical equipment; ability to read plumbing and mechanical diagrams, drawings, schematics, and specifications
- —Experience with Building Management System (BMS), Building Automation System (BAS), Energy Management System (EMS), and/or HVAC remote operation systems troubleshooting
- —Intermediate knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations; established safe workplace practices utilizing NFPA 70E as a safety standard (LOTO); adherence to applicable Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) laws
- —Ability to oversee mechanical commissioning, testing, and maintenance activities performed by consultants or mechanical contractors
- —Strong customer service and interpersonal skills for effective technical and administrative communication
