About this role
Senior Equipment Specialist role at AEP focused on planning, testing, receiving, storing, assembling, and repairing critical station electrical equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, and cable systems. The position requires FAC-008 field verification certification and Part-107 drone operator license for EHV (Extra High Voltage) station inspections. This role supports nuclear and conventional generation facilities.
Responsibilities
- —Instruct others or perform routine and emergency tests on station electrical equipment as required
- —Prepare and maintain station electrical equipment records and documentation
- —Develop and assist with presentations in Centralized Station Electrician Training Schools
- —Coordinate bidding contracts and monitor performance of contractors
- —Investigate failures or malfunctions of electrical equipment, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions
- —Check all details of installation and release electrical equipment for operation
- —Perform or direct modernization and rebuilding of station electrical equipment
Qualifications
- —Associate's degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance technology or equivalent education and/or experience
- —Minimum 3 years of work experience in Station or Protection & Control related activities
- —Military training and work experience of technical/technician nature (such as aviation and nuclear instrumentation technician) OR recent experience (within last 6 months) as a Station Electrician or equivalent job title with another electric utility or contractor
Desired
- —Good working knowledge of PCs and various types of test equipment
- —Part-107 drone operator license
- —FAC-008 field verification certification
Location
Onsite at EHV (Extra High Voltage) stations within assigned reporting region. Heavy physical work required: exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25-50 pounds frequently.
