Engineer III / Senior Engineer (Mechanical) - Harris Nuclear Plant
About this role
Engineer III or Senior Engineer (Mechanical) supporting plant Maintenance and Operations at Harris Nuclear Plant. Ensure equipment reliability, lead component maintenance planning, and provide engineering guidance on mechanical systems to operations and maintenance teams. Position includes Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties.
Responsibilities
- —Provide engineering/technical guidance to Operations, Maintenance, and other groups on identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity
- —Support periodic testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of assigned mechanical systems; evaluate and solve equipment failures, degradation, and operational issues
- —Initiate and advocate for system reliability improvements and perform component maintenance optimization
- —Serve as designated owner for critical components in assigned systems and provide tactical support for day-to-day plant maintenance
- —Ensure accomplishment of business goals through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
- —Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports and documentation with analysis capabilities for problems of increasing complexity
- —Complete non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight; independently manage projects and interfaces
- —Conduct engineering and equipment investigations with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating problem resolution
- —Provide equipment/system technical support for Operability Determinations and support review of Operations and Maintenance procedures
- —Analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes; develop relevant standards and stay current on new developments
- —Coach and mentor less experienced engineers as needed
Qualifications
- —Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program (or Master's degree in engineering as alternative)
- —For Engineer III: 4–6 years of engineering experience
- —For Senior Engineer: Minimum 6 years of engineering experience OR 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer
- —Ability to achieve Unescorted Access/Security clearance
Desired
- —Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- —Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
- —Experience in the utility industry
- —Expertise in mechanical engineering areas: pumps, valves, chillers, compressors, heat exchangers, diesel generators, strainers
- —Skilled in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, and preparing recommendations
- —Proficiency in project management principles
Location
Onsite at Harris Nuclear Plant (North Carolina). Position includes Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities with potential callouts.
