Engineer I-Senior- Risk Controls Relay Protection & Control Engineer
About this role
Engineer role at Entergy focused on relay protection and control risk assessment for transmission systems. You'll provide technical reviews of protection/control documents, work strategies, and construction plans to identify and mitigate risks affecting nuclear, industrial, and strategic customers. This role is critical to ensuring reliable operation of transmission assets that support nuclear power plant interconnection and grid stability.
Responsibilities
- —Provide technical reviews of work strategies, documents, and protection/control project plans for accuracy against existing protection schemes and relay prints
- —Review outage durations and construction strategies to minimize outage exposure and identify alternative practices
- —Identify risks in drawings and supporting documents; develop mitigations including work instructions, isolations, and by-pass options
- —Serve as primary contact for risk assessment questions; evaluate reliability risk in relay protection schemes, operations, planning, and substation/transmission practices
- —Lead, participate in, and develop procedures, metrics, and training materials for risk control processes across transmission assets
- —Lead critical evolution meetings with stakeholders to discuss risk profiles of tasks and projects
- —Provide input to design engineers, construction engineers, planning, and project managers on reducing reliability risk and developing alternative construction strategies
- —Participate in project team meetings during early development stages to assess risk profiles
- —Challenge transmission organizations to apply consistent risk control processes
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in engineering (typically Electrical or Computer Engineering) from a four-year accredited institution
- —0-2 years of experience in an engineering discipline (Engineer I level)
- —Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles
- —Thorough understanding of procedures, programs, and standards in your responsible area
- —Good leadership and interpersonal skills with strong written and oral communication
- —Excellent math and project management skills
- —Good knowledge of personal computer operations and related software
- —Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities under pressure
- —Ability to recognize and mitigate workplace hazards
Desired
- —Electrical Engineering degree
- —At least 2 years of experience in an engineering discipline
- —PE (Professional Engineer) or FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) license
- —Proficiency in short circuit fault analysis and relay protection/controls
- —Strong technical knowledge in designing protection schemes and relay settings for transmission and distribution assets
Location
Onsite; up to 25% travel; primary locations in Louisiana (Metairie, New Orleans), Mississippi (Jackson), or Texas (Woodlands)
