Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Nuclear, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination
- Working knowledge of nuclear plant systems and protection & control fundamentals preferred
About this role
Entry-level to mid-level engineering position for Bachelor's degree holders to develop expertise in nuclear plant protection and control systems at AEP. You'll perform complex engineering work supporting safe, reliable nuclear operations while progressing toward PE licensure.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex engineering work on nuclear plant protection and control systems, including design, analysis, testing, and documentation
- Develop advanced proficiency in specialized areas such as reactor control systems, thermo-hydraulic control systems, safety systems, and nuclear plant operations
- Lead and coordinate technical work activities across engineering teams, departments, and external stakeholders
- Develop, recommend, and implement engineering plans including scheduling, resource allocation, and cost control for complex nuclear systems problems
- Identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical problems requiring multi-functional analytical techniques
- Prepare and present complex technical subjects to senior management, regulatory bodies (NRC), and professional organizations
- Build technical networks across AEP, industry partners, professional organizations, and regulatory agencies
Preferred qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in preparation or pending
- Experience with nuclear regulatory requirements and NRC compliance
- Familiarity with protection and control system design standards
Location, schedule, and travel
On-site in Tulsa, OK or Corpus Christi, TX. Primarily sedentary work environment with occasional site visits and lifting up to 10 pounds.
