Director of Engineering, TPI
About this role
Director of Engineering at TerraPower Isotopes to lead the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of Ac-225 cGMP radioisotope production facilities. Reports to President of TPI. Requires proven leadership of complex radiological engineering projects involving shielded hot cells, nuclear containment systems, radiological transfer/exhaust systems, and major capital project delivery from inception through operations.
Responsibilities
- —Direct engineering team delivering full design scope for radioisotope production lines and cGMP-compliant facilities
- —Oversee engineering quality, project delivery timelines, continuous improvement, and corrective action response
- —Identify and ensure proper application of design codes (ASME, ASCE, ANS, ASPE, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA) to facility and lab systems
- —Lead technical design packages and project design reviews within stage-gate project management framework
- —Ensure complete delivery of complex radiological operations systems including hot cells, gloveboxes, mechanical systems, transfer systems, and cGMP facility controls
- —Manage technical deliverable quality, status communication, and risk/issue escalation to project managers
- —Coordinate with TPI technology, operations, quality, customer service teams and TerraPower Safety/Radiation Safety Officers on technical scope and safe delivery
- —Oversee acceptance testing, IQ/OQ/PQ protocols, turnover planning, maintenance plan development, and equipment troubleshooting
- —Support procurement package development and vendor management for complete designs and timely delivery
- —Ensure consistent application of engineering design processes and best practices for internal and external projects
- —Provide technical guidance on routine operations, preventative maintenance, facility upgrades, and lessons learned documentation
Qualifications
- —18+ years nuclear and/or radiopharmaceutical industry experience
- —B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering; M.S./Ph.D. acceptable with commensurate experience
- —Extensive experience leading engineering design and major capital project delivery for nuclear/radiopharmaceutical facilities from inception through operations turnover
- —Minimum 6 years in technical management role with responsibility for quality and delivery of project technical scope
- —Comprehensive knowledge of engineering codes: ASME NQA-1, ASCE, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, ICH/ISO standards for cGMP radioisotope production
- —Essential experience designing and managing installation/commissioning of nuclear containments (hot cells, gloveboxes, shielded mechanical systems)
- —Essential familiarity with radiological and aseptic material transfer systems
- —Demonstrated track record of cost and schedule adherence on major capital projects
