Design Engineer EPU- Vogtle
About this role
Design Engineer supporting the Extended Power Uprate (EPU) project at Vogtle Units 1 and 2. This role provides mechanical or electrical engineering expertise for equipment upgrades and design modifications to support EPU conditions. You'll work within the Central Design Engineering organization, managing design packages, coordinating with architect engineers and technical support services, and ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- —Develop and implement design changes for Vogtle 1/2 EPU project, including obtaining design qualifications
- —Review, challenge, and create design change packages prepared by Architect Engineers and Technical Support Services
- —Provide technical oversight for design modifications and conduct site walkthroughs to assess constructability
- —Manage design scope, schedule, and budget to meet site objectives
- —Create and coordinate purchase orders, verify material receipt, and manage vendor relationships
- —Develop and coordinate test procedures for design modifications
- —Update design drawings post-modification and present changes at technical meetings
- —Support cost estimates and scoping for future modifications
- —Participate in industry groups (BWROG, PWROG, EPRI, IEEE, NEI) and support scheduling, planning, and field implementation
- —Perform emergency response duty and engineering duty as required
- —Attend post-project evaluation and lessons learned meetings
Qualifications
- —Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited institution
- —Minimum 3 years nuclear power plant engineering experience
- —Minimum 3 years engineering design experience
- —Excellent oral and written communication skills
- —Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- —Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and common engineering software
- —Must meet NRC Fitness for Duty and background screening requirements
- —Must successfully complete Systems Engineering training program
- —Willing to travel to other fleet plants and corporate office
Desired
- —EIT/FE or Professional Engineer (PE) Registration
- —Commercial Operations certification or equivalent experience
- —Nuclear design modifications experience
- —Construction planning, scheduling, and implementation experience
- —Project management and oversight experience
- —Knowledge of commercial nuclear power plant regulations, codes, and standards (10 CFR, ASME, IEEE)
- —Standard Design Process knowledge
Location
Vogtle Units 1 and 2 near Waynesboro, Georgia; onsite role with required travel to other Southern Nuclear fleet plants and corporate offices
