Required qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET-accredited program (Master's degree accepted)
- For Level II: Minimum 2 years engineering experience OR 1 year experience + Professional Engineer (PE) state registration
- Ability to achieve and maintain nuclear site Unescorted Access
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment in operating plant environment
- Ability to work extended hours, emergency callouts, and on-call duty rotation
- Lawful work authorization in U.S. without sponsorship requirement
About this role
Entry-level to mid-level civil/structural engineering role at Brunswick Nuclear Plant (Duke Energy). Support routine problem-solving, technical analysis, and engineering studies for plant operations and maintenance. Develop expertise under supervision while contributing to nuclear facility infrastructure and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering/technical expertise in identifying, analyzing, and resolving routine civil/structural problems
- Prepare thorough technical reports, calculations, sketches, and documentation for engineering studies
- Conduct basic to intermediate engineering studies and evaluations
- Assist in planning, scheduling, estimating, and monitoring work activities to support business goals
- Coordinate work activities and maintain positive relationships across engineering and operations teams
- Perform field walk-downs in operating nuclear plant to assess structural conditions and site conditions
- Maintain accurate records and files per nuclear regulatory requirements
Preferred qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program
- Passing grade on Engineering Fundamentals (FE) Exam
- Understanding of engineering design practices, alternatives evaluation, and recommendations
- Project management fundamentals
- Utility industry experience
- Experience in nuclear facility infrastructure or commercial nuclear operations
Location, schedule, and travel
Onsite at Brunswick Nuclear Plant (Southport, North Carolina). On-call duty rotation required. 5–15% travel including occasional overnight stays. Reliable transportation and ability to perform field walk-downs in operating nuclear plant necessary.
