Armed Security Officer
About this role
Armed Security Officer protecting Constellation's nuclear power plants against radiological sabotage, attack, and theft of special nuclear material. You'll conduct armed patrols (stationary, foot, and vehicle), control access to personnel and materials, monitor surveillance systems, and serve as part of an Armed Response Force. This role requires NRC certification and federal firearms licensing.
Responsibilities
- —Conduct armed stationary, foot, and vehicle patrols (interior and exterior)
- —Control access and egress of personnel, materials, and vehicles at security checkpoints
- —Monitor CCTV, plant surveillance equipment, and alarm systems
- —Perform search activities and inspections per Station Security Plan and post orders
- —Respond to threats and contingency events as part of Armed Response Force
- —Deter criminal activity, misconduct, and safety violations
- —Perform equipment testing and maintenance on security systems
- —Maintain and implement NRC requirements and Federal/State Laws for site protection
- —Maintain thorough knowledge of plant layout to support site defensive strategy
- —Conduct accurate record keeping and documentation per federal and corporate guidelines
- —Participate in initial and annual formal training to maintain armed Nuclear Security Officer qualifications
- —Support emergency response and outage operations as directed
Qualifications
- —At least 21 years of age
- —High School diploma or GED
- —Ability to obtain and maintain nuclear unescorted access
- —Meet minimum state requirements to carry a firearm
- —Valid driver's license and REAL ID or REAL ID-compliant identification
- —Pass State and Federal required training and licensing qualifications
- —Pass drug and alcohol test with negative results (including THC/marijuana)
- —Pass extensive background check (criminal history, personal references, employment and educational verifications, credit check)
- —Ability to operate radio, telephone equipment, console monitors, and surveillance equipment
- —Successfully complete physical fitness test, firearms qualification, and nuclear site-specific training
- —Pass psychological assessment and physical exams (vision and hearing)
- —Ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public
- —Ability to transit work locations (walk, climb stairs, climb ladders, conduct routine rounds)
- —Ability to access and egress Bullet Resistant Enclosure (BRE) Towers
- —Ability to manually carry, lift, or handle gear up to 25 lbs
- —Physical capability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, squat, and reach over shoulder height
- —Comply with all NRC requirements under 10 CFR Part 26
Location
12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and forced overtime; interior and exterior patrol duties at nuclear power plant facility; onsite station
