Required qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years hands-on experience in diagnostic testing and AOV/actuator valve maintenance
- U.S. Navy nuclear propulsion background or equivalent training in reactor maintenance or operations
- Mechanical and electrical experience with ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
- Proficiency with basic hand tools, electrical instruments, and diagnostic tools
- Ability to perform tasks requiring climbing, lifting up to 100 lbs., prolonged standing, manual dexterity, and visual acuity
- Pass all pre-employment and employment screening requirements including practical/written skills assessments, medical, psychological, background, and substance abuse screenings
About this role
AOV Senior Tester for short-term contract assignments (4–6 weeks) performing functional and post-maintenance diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repair of Air-Operated Valves at nuclear power facilities. Requires 5+ years of hands-on AOV/actuator maintenance experience and U.S. Navy nuclear propulsion background or equivalent reactor maintenance training.
Responsibilities
- Perform functional and post-maintenance diagnostic testing, corrective and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Air-Operated Valves (AOVs)
- Ensure AOV performance meets prescribed design and vendor specifications, including seating force, stroke length, and position control
- Perform leak testing, valve adjustments, and alignment checks using appropriate gauges and tools
- Support field troubleshooting, emergency repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Complete work orders with accurate documentation of tasks and daily field activity logs
- Ensure safety of self and team; comply with lockout/tagout, OSHA standards, and nuclear program radiological and quality requirements
- Work in confined spaces, high-temperature areas, and elevated heights with appropriate PPE
Preferred qualifications
- Vocational or technical training in valve maintenance or EPRI qualifications
- Satisfactory performance rating from previous work based on client and contractor feedback
Location, schedule, and travel
100% travel; 4–6 week short-term contract assignments; 40–72 hours per week; includes confined spaces, high-temperature areas, elevated heights; willingness to work overtime, shifts, weekends, and holidays
