Analytical Team Leader - Support (Metallurgy)
About this role
Lead metallurgical analysis and failure investigations of nuclear fuel products and components at Westinghouse's UKAS-accredited laboratory. This development role offers a clear pathway to Laboratory Manager, with progressive responsibility for team coordination, laboratory operations, and technical expertise in a regulated nuclear environment.
Responsibilities
- —Conduct metallurgical analysis, investigations, testing, and failure analysis on nuclear fuel products and components
- —Build capability across metallurgical techniques and laboratory operations; progressively take ownership of people, processes, and systems
- —Support team coordination, prioritization, and performance routines; manage workloads to meet business needs
- —Perform routine and non-routine laboratory work; develop and validate analytical methods
- —Use LIMS for data management and reporting; ensure traceability within UKAS-accredited systems
- —Produce clear technical reports, provide guidance, and collaborate with Production, PDG, and Quality teams
- —Apply quality control procedures, manage deviations, and enhance analytical processes while following safety standards and risk assessments
Qualifications
BSc in relevant scientific discipline with 2+ years' experience, or 5–10 years' relevant experience without a degree. Must have experience in metallurgical laboratory practices, knowledge of regulated environments and radiological hazards, familiarity with quality systems and method validation.
