Required qualifications
BSc in relevant scientific discipline with 2+ years' experience, or 5–10 years' relevant experience without a degree. Must have experience in metallurgical laboratory practices, knowledge of regulated environments and radiological hazards, familiarity with quality systems and method validation.
About this role
Lead metallurgical analysis and failure investigations of nuclear fuel products and components at Westinghouse's UKAS-accredited laboratory. This development role offers a clear pathway to Laboratory Manager, with progressive responsibility for team coordination, laboratory operations, and technical expertise in a regulated nuclear environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct metallurgical analysis, investigations, testing, and failure analysis on nuclear fuel products and components
- Build capability across metallurgical techniques and laboratory operations; progressively take ownership of people, processes, and systems
- Support team coordination, prioritization, and performance routines; manage workloads to meet business needs
- Perform routine and non-routine laboratory work; develop and validate analytical methods
- Use LIMS for data management and reporting; ensure traceability within UKAS-accredited systems
- Produce clear technical reports, provide guidance, and collaborate with Production, PDG, and Quality teams
- Apply quality control procedures, manage deviations, and enhance analytical processes while following safety standards and risk assessments
